Why are People Fat?

We are seeing more and more people in the UK and the world, become larger and larger. You would expect that as the overweight population possibly outstrips those people who are an average weight, that being fat would have become the norm. How untrue is this?

Just because there are a few skinny models and celebrities that are spread all over the media, we still believe that we should all look like them. How true that would be if we didn’t have to work all week, and without a personal trainer and dietician it is just not possible. I know for sure that if I had a six foot, muscle bound, fitness trainer pushing me to my limits in the gym, I would be perfectly toned as well. But for us normal people the thought of joining the gym as I am at the moment, to exercise next to all these toned people, just isn’t for me.

I think people are getting fatter these days mainly due to the wide variety of tasty but fatty foods that are so readily available. It is that quick fix meal. People have very little time these days to cook a ‘proper’ meal that can be classed as a balanced meal. When myself and my wife have time at the weekends to prepare a proper meal, they taste so good. But during the week, after a long day…who can be bothered. Another major downfall is snacking on an evening on chocolate… mmmmm!

    I reckon the biggest reason we are getting fatter is ‘cos we do less physical work.

    Sure, the junk food thing plays its part as well, but most of us do no more exercise than walk to and from the car.

    After all, its just an ‘energy in, energy out’ equation, right?

    Very true that we are becoming much lazier, mainly due to advances in technology and the fact that we use our cars so much. I live about a 20 minute walk from work, which takes me about 5 minutes in my car. If I chose to walk to work it would do me so much good. Maybe once the weather gets a bit better I should do it, even if I walk a couple of times a week. Thanks for joining us btw.
