Paul Mckenna in this chapter helps the reader understand why they have problems losing weight and there are three main reasons, emotional eating, obsessive dieting and having a brain that has been programmed to over eat for a number of reasons. It goes into detail about why some people are naturally thin and can eat as much as they like and not put on an ounce. I know a few people like this and it’s unbelieveable at what they eat and show no signs of putting any extra weight on. I always had this down to metabolism and presumed that I was just destined to be overweight.

He builds confidence in this chapter that it is not your fault and that there is a solution. It is just a matter of retuning your brain and habits to make you lose the weight and keep it off forever. Such an ideal thought to have and it would be fantastic if it was going to be true.

Through out the book Paul McKenna uses a lot of visualisation exercises, all part of getting your mind focused and determined to succeed. In this chapter you have to imagine how you would feel if you were at the end of your life and were still overweight and unhappy, then to think how you would feel if you had lost the weight. A very good start to a book that could change the lives of so many people.

this is hard hitting stuff you know. I am 17 stone and very unhappy . I have an under active thyroid and blame that, always blameing something else, but how i felt when i suddenly thought about dying at this size and never being thin and feeling attractive, made me sit and cry. It is an awful thought and made me determined that this would work , i’m not going to die fat

    Hi Victoria
Welcome and thanks for joining us. How long have you been on the Paul McKenna diet for and have you seen any success yet?

Good to hear from Victoria. I wonder if it helps doing two different diets at the same time. Do you then get the best of both worlds? I would be interested in any one telling me how to lose weight and keep it off. I am doing Pauls diet and losing a few pounds every week–but aren’t we all so impatient??

I,ve been doing the diet! for two weeks and have lost 3pounds the problem is that when it becomes the ladies time of month all my body tells me I NEED is chocolate. If I try to ignore the feeling I end up with a very bad headache. The thought of other foods does not interst me at all.The closest feeling I can relate to this was when I was pregnant and I NEEDED certain food there and then.I’m worried if that is all I eat at that time I will put my weight back on.

    Hi Ceri
Thanks for joining us. I’m probably not the best person to comment, but maybe some of the female readers can help you here. From my experience with my wife her weight increases by a few pounds at her time of the month and she does get more of a sweet tooth. I guess that if you can control how much chocolate that you eat, ie. stick to when you are hungry then it is not too bad. Paul McKenna does say that you must eat what you want and no food is forbidden. There is a bigger problem if you have a proper meal and then eat lots of chocolate when you are actually full. Have you tried the tapping technique when you want the chocolate to see if it takes the craving away, or the spinning technique?
How many days would you say that you need chocolate?

Thank you for your reply and advise.I have tried the techniques offerd but it does not effect the feelings at all.It really feels as though my body needs it (thats not just an excuse!!)and its not just a craving.I do get cravings and the spinning and tapping do help me then.I usually want the chocolate for two or three days before then when it begins its the last thing I want to eat.Sorry about the question being embarrasing,Ididnt know where to go for help it is not mentioned in the book. Thanks again

Hi Ceri… don’t worry about the question at all, I don’t get embarrassed about that sort of stuff, it’s a fact of life isn’t it. From what you are saying I think you should just follow what your body needs. Like you said it is like a pregnancy craving and I know from when my wife was pregnant she would eat strange foods at odd times and it is obviously your body needed some supplement. You must need high levels of sugar for the few days before your period. I suggest that you don’t feel guilty about it or worry about it. If you try to not eat the chocolate you will only feel awful in yourself, so go with it, but then for the rest of the month you can stick to the diet and will be fine.
